I vividly remember my long afternoon walks in the park du Luxembourg in the Latin Quarter in Paris, as I used to lived across from it, Rue d’Assas. There were retired men talking about their war stories and playing pétanque, lovers silently hugging on benches, people just trying to be friends with each other, and me, flaneur crossing the park because it was on the Eastern side (the 5th arrondissement) that the philosophers were based, rue d’Ulm and I felt something vibrate in me there, just breathing the air & imbibing philosophy and the hype that came with it; it was a pilgrimage to my promised land. For years, as I routinely crossed that park, the same APlatonic depressing idea haunted me upon seeing the lovers embracing & cuddling each other on the benches, the idea of the transitory aspect of such intensity, and its potential reversal. The more intensely enthralled two being are with each other the harder they will try to hurt each other upon separation. They seemed to want to unite with each other, care about each other, protect each other, minister the smallest need in the other, cure the other of the small wounds, but, at some point in the future they might be inflicting the most scathing injury to the other. The nonlovers might be less close, but, in all likelihood, they should unconditionally stay friends, or, at least they are not expected to inflict harm on the other. I realized that there was an element in this treacherous thing called love that was not for philosophers.

Love & Marriage December 12, 2009
Posted by admin in : Uncategorized , add a commentI told you i love short stories. Good stories define the magic of art. Here is one of my favs from the era of plato.
One day, Plato asked his teacher, “What is love? How can I find it?” His teacher answered, “There is a vast wheat field in front. Walk forward without turning back, and pick only one stalk. If you find the most magnificent stalk, then you have found love.” Plato walked forward, and before long, he returned with empty hands, having picked nothing. His teacher asked, “Why did you not pick any stalk?” Plato answered, “Because I could only pick once, and yet I could not turn back. I did find the most magnificent stalk, but did not know if there were any better ones ahead, so I did not pick it. As I walked further, the stalks that I saw were not as good as the earlier one, so I did not pick any in the end. His teacher then said, “And that is love.” On another day, Plato asked his teacher, “What is marriage? How can I Find it?” His teacher answered, “There is a thriving forest in front. Walk forward without turning back, and chop down only one tree. If you find the tallest tree, then you have found marriage”.
Plato walked forward, and before long, he returned with a tree. The tree was not thriving, and it was not tall either. It was only an ordinary tree. His teacher asked, “Why did you chop down such an ordinary tree?” Plato answered, “Because of my previous experience. I had walked through the field, but returned with empty hands. This time, I saw this tree, and I felt that it was not bad, so I chopped it down and brought it back. I did not want to miss the opportunity.” His teacher then said, “And that is marriage. You see son Love is the most beautiful thing to happen to a person, its an opportunity but you don’t realize its worth when you have it but only when its gone like the field of stalks. Marriage is like the tree you chopped, it’s a compromise . . .
Immortalizing Love in a Flower March 19, 2009
Posted by admin in : Living , add a commentToday on my way to office I saw a dry rose on the road. It must have been put in between the book pages or similar things. Although a bit dry, it still looked good and all the petals intact. It was a Yellow Rose.
I can clearly see some text written all over the dry rose. Examining closely, I could see the text. There were quite a few “love”, “you” words and on the other side I could even see a name too.
Wow.
Someone has tried to immortalized love in a rose.

Money Can’t Buy Love, But Love Might Need Lots of Money January 28, 2009
Posted by admin in : Living , add a commentOne of my friends at Bikalpa has the busiest phone around. Yeah he receives about 15 to 20 calls every hour and that too from the same number. and Yeah he is in love. When I tried to find out the actual transactions of his romantic talks, he gave me his cell phone recharge history.

Well love does cost some money.
Good for him that he is getting married next month ;). and that might not have anything to do with his future phone calls.
